It’s been a while since I produced a list of the top 10 WordPress plugins. Recently, I completed a first pass analysis of the 41,795 plugins on wordpress.org as of 12th December 2015.
The total downloads was a staggering: 1,038,708,495
There are 11 plugins with over 10 million downloads.

Caveat
Since I started the analysis the total displayed on wordpress.org/plugins reached: 1,115,557,720… 41,798 plugins on the 13th December. Today (20th December). it’s 41,977 plugins with 1,124,309,632 downloads.
Not quite sure where the extra 80 million comes from. Perhaps there are two clones Akismet!
