  • There are now 5 plugins with over 300 million total downloads
  • But WordPress SEO is way ahead having just recently passed 600 million!
  • No change in the top 12 order
  • 72 more plugins than last month
  • There are 1,022 plugins awaiting review. See WordPress.org: Add your plugin
  • 265 plugins have been marked as Tested up to: 6.4
  • and one plugin Requires at least: 6.4

Top 12 – 23rd September 2023

The top 12 WordPress plugins by total downloads for 23rd September 2023 follows:

  • The total downloads from wordpress.org now exceeds 9 billion
  • Akismet will soon join 4 other plugins with over 300 million total downloads.
  • No change in the top 12 order
  • Nearly a quarter of all plugins have been updated this year.
  • Over 6 and a half thousand have been tested with WordPress 6.3
  • 37 more plugins than last month

  • WordFence and Elementor have both achieved over 300 million total downloads.
  • 91 fewer plugins than last month ( 60574 )
  • 22% of plugins have been updated this year.
  • 250 plugins have already been tested with WordPress 6.3

The top 12 WordPress plugins by total downloads for 13th June 2023 follows:

  • 115 more plugins than the last report, but still fewer than in March 2023 (60711).
  • wpforms-lite has overtaken google-analytics-for-wordpress.
  • 5.5K plugins tested with WordPress 6.1
  • 8K plugins tested with WordPress 6.2
  • 119 plugins have exceeded 10 million total downloads.
  • There are now over 100 plugins with AI in the plugin name; 8 pages of plugins tagged ai.

AI plugins

At the WordPress Cambridge Meetup on 12th June 2023, Simon Bragg talked about several free and premium AI (Artificial Intelligence) plugins for WordPress.

This table lists up to 150 plugins, measured by total downloads, which contain the word AI. On 13th June there were just over 100 of them.
